رحّب الاتحاد الفيدرالي للمجالس الإسلامية في أستراليا بالإعلان عن أن أستراليا ستعترف رسميًّا بدولة فلسطين خلال الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في شهر سبتمبر 2025. ويُعدّ هذا الاعتراف خطوة مهمّة طال انتظارها، وتأكيدًا لحقّ الشعب الفلسطيني في تقرير مصيره، وانعكاسًا لتنامي الاعتراف الدولي بمعاناته وقضيته العادلة.
وأكد رئيس الاتحاد، الدكتور راتب جنيد، أنّ الاعتراف على أهميته لا ينبغي أن يصرف الأنظار عن الحاجة الماسّة والعاجلة لحماية أرواح الفلسطينيين، قائلاً:
“إنّ الاعتراف في الأمم المتحدة خطوة مرحّب بها، غير أنّ العدالة لا يجوز أن تُؤجَّل. على العالم أن يتحرّك الآن لوقف القتل، وضمان الوصول الإنساني غير المقيّد، ومحاسبة المسؤولين عن الفظائع. إنّ الشعب الفلسطيني يستحق الاعتراف والحماية معًا، ولا مجال للتفريط في أيّ منهما.”
وحذّر الاتحاد من أن الاعتراف الدبلوماسي يجب ألّا يُستَخدم كغطاء لتحصين الاحتلال الإسرائيلي من المساءلة عن جريمة الإبادة الجماعية، وجرائم الحرب، وسياسة التجويع المتعمّد بحقّ شعبٍ كامل. إنّ الاعتداء المستمر على قطاع غزة، وما يرافقه من سقوط أعداد هائلة من الضحايا المدنيين والتدمير المنهجي للبنية التحتية، يُشكّل انتهاكات جسيمة للقانون الدولي تستوجب تدخّلًا دوليًّا فوريًّا.
وأضاف الدكتور جنيد:
“مع اتخاذ أستراليا لهذه الخطوة على الساحة الدولية، فإننا ندعو حكومتنا إلى أن تقرن الاعتراف بتحرّك حاسم، يشمل دعم جهود الإغاثة الإنسانية، والتمسّك بالقانون الدولي، والمطالبة بمحاسبة حقيقية وفعّالة.”
ويؤكد الاتحاد الفيدرالي للمجالس الإسلامية في أستراليا التزامه بالعمل مع جمعياته الأعضاء وشركائه، ومع المجتمع الأسترالي الأوسع، من أجل الدفاع عن العدالة وحقوق الإنسان، وضمان حماية الشعب الفلسطيني.
AFIC Welcomes Australia’s Recognition of Palestine, Urges Immediate Action to Protect Civilians and End Atrocities

The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) welcomes the announcement that Australia will formally recognise the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September 2025. This is a significant and overdue acknowledgment of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and reflects the growing global recognition of their plight.
AFIC President, Dr Rateb Jneid, emphasised that while recognition is important, it must not divert attention from the urgent need to protect Palestinian lives.
“Recognition at the UN is a welcome step, but justice cannot be delayed. The world must act now to end the killing, ensure unfettered humanitarian access, and hold those responsible for atrocities to account. The Palestinian people deserve both recognition and protection. There can be no compromise on either front,” Dr Jneid said.
AFIC cautions that diplomatic recognition must never be used as a shield to immunise Israel from accountability for genocide, war crimes, and the deliberate starvation of an entire population. The ongoing assault on Gaza, with mass civilian casualties and the systematic destruction of infrastructure, constitutes grave breaches of international law that demand immediate international intervention.
“As Australia takes this step on the world stage, we call on our government to pair recognition with decisive action, supporting humanitarian relief efforts, upholding international law, and pressing for genuine accountability,” Dr Jneid added.
AFIC remains committed to working with its member societies, partners, and the wider Australian community to advocate for justice, human rights, and the protection of the Palestinian people.
