يعرب الاتحاد الفيدرالي للمجالس الإسلامية برئاسة الدكتور راتب جنبيد عن قلقه العميق إزاء التقارير التي تشير إلى أن الحكومة الأسترالية تفكر في تقديم مساعدات عسكرية لدعم عمليات الولايات المتحدة في الخليج، بعد تصاعد الصراع الذي اندلع نتيجة الهجمات على إيران ولبنان.
لأكثر من عامين، شهد العالم العواقب المدمرة للعدوان العسكري غير المسيطر عليه من قبل إسرائيل، المدعومة من الولايات المتحدة، في المنطقة. لقد أدى تدمير غزة وتوسيع الأعمال العدائية إلى لبنان وسوريا، والآن التصعيد المباشر ضد إيران، إلى عواقب إنسانية كارثية بالفعل.
ومع ذلك، ورغم التكلفة البشرية الهائلة، فشلت أستراليا باستمرار في اتخاذ موقف مبدئي ضد العنف.
رفضت الحكومة الأسترالية إدانة إسرائيل بشكل جاد بسبب الدمار في غزة، وظلت صامتة إلى حد كبير بينما تعرض لبنان للقصف المتكرر، وسارعت للتعبير عن دعمها للولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل بعد هجماتهم على إيران، وهي أفعال انتقدت دولياً على نطاق واسع باعتبارها غير قانونية ومزعزعة للاستقرار بشدة.
الآن، تشير التقارير إلى أن الحكومة تفكر في تقديم دعم عسكري مباشر.
وقال رئيس الاتحاد الدكتور راتب جنبيد: “سيكون هذا خطوة خطيرة وغير مسؤولة للغاية”.
وأضاف: “لقد أظهرت التاريخ مرارًا وتكرارًا أن مثل هذه التدخلات لا تجلب السلام أو الاستقرار. لقد تركت الغزوات في العراق، والحرب في أفغانستان، وعقود التدخلات العسكرية في المنطقة وراءها دمارًا، وعدم استقرار، ومعاناة هائلة للمدنيين”.
وتشير التقارير الصادرة من المنطقة بالفعل إلى صورة قاتمة. فقد نزح مئات الآلاف من المدنيين اللبنانيين نتيجة القصف الإسرائيلي، بينما أفادت التقارير بمقتل أكثر من ألف شخص في إيران، بينهم أكثر من 160 طفلًا.
ينبغي على أستراليا أن تدعو إلى خفض التصعيد والدبلوماسية بدلاً من وضع نفسها في صف حملة عسكرية متوسعة.
وقال الدكتور جنبيد: “يجب أن تكون أستراليا في طليعة الجهود الدولية لوقف هذه الهجمات غير القانونية واستعادة احترام القانون الدولي”.
بدلاً من ذلك، يبدو أن الحكومة مستعدة مرة أخرى لتأييد العمل العسكري للولايات المتحدة دون تحفظ، مما يعزز الانطباع بأن أستراليا قد تخليت عن أي سياسة خارجية مستقلة.
يجب ألا تسهم أستراليا في تصعيد نزاع يسبب بالفعل معاناة هائلة للمدنيين ويهدد باستقرار المنطقة بأكملها.
يدعو الاتحاد الفيدرالي للمجالس الإسلامية الحكومة الأسترالية إلى رفض أي اقتراح للتورط العسكري، والمطالبة بوقف فوري للأعمال العدائية، ودعم الجهود الدبلوماسية الرامية إلى منع تصاعد النزاع أكثر.
يجب على أستراليا أن تقف من أجل السلام، والقانون الدولي، وحماية حياة المدنيين، لا من أجل توسيع الحرب.
AFIC Condemns Australia’s Consideration of Military Support for Escalating Middle East Conflict
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) expresses deep concern over reports that the Australian government is considering providing military assistance to support United States operations in the Gulf following the escalating conflict triggered by attacks on Iran and Lebanon.
For more than two years, the world has witnessed the devastating consequences of unchecked military aggression by Israel, supported by the United States, across the region. The destruction of Gaza, the widening of hostilities into Lebanon and Syria, and now the direct escalation against Iran have already produced catastrophic humanitarian consequences.
Yet despite the overwhelming human cost, Australia has consistently failed to take a principled stand against the violence.
The Australian government has refused to meaningfully condemn Israel for the devastation in Gaza, has remained largely silent as Lebanon has come under repeated bombardment, and moved quickly to express support for the United States and Israel following their attacks on Iran, actions widely criticised internationally as illegal and deeply destabilising.
Now the government is reportedly considering direct military assistance.
“This would be an extraordinarily dangerous and irresponsible step,” said AFIC President Dr Rateb Jneid.
“History has repeatedly shown that these kinds of interventions do not bring peace or stability. The invasions of Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, and decades of military intervention across the region have left destruction, instability and immense civilian suffering in their wake.”
Reports emerging from the region already paint a grim picture. Hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians have been displaced by Israeli bombardment, while in Iran more than a thousand people have reportedly been killed, including over 160 children.
Australia should be advocating for de-escalation and diplomacy rather than positioning itself alongside an expanding military campaign.
“Australia should be at the forefront of international efforts to stop these illegal attacks and restore respect for international law,” Dr Jneid said.
Instead, the government appears ready once again to align itself unquestioningly with United States military action, reinforcing the perception that Australia has abandoned any independent foreign policy.
Australia should not be contributing to the escalation of a conflict that is already causing immense civilian suffering and threatening to destabilise the entire region.
AFIC calls on the Australian government to reject any proposal for military involvement, to demand an immediate cessation of hostilities, and to support diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the conflict from spiralling further.
Australia must stand for peace, international law and the protection of civilian life not the expansion of war.
