يدين الاتحاد الأسترالي للمجالس الإسلامية (AFIC) برئاسة الدكتور راتب جنيد، بأشد العبارات التصعيد الأخير للعدوان العسكري الإسرائيلي على لبنان، والذي أسفر عن سقوط عشرات الضحايا من المدنيين، ودمار واسع في البنية التحتية، وتشريد مئات الآلاف من السكان.
ويؤكد الاتحاد أن لبنان يُجرّ مرة أخرى إلى دائرة صراع إقليمي مدمّر ومتسع النطاق، في ظل تكثيف الضربات الإسرائيلية في مختلف المناطق، بما في ذلك شرق لبنان وسهل البقاع. وقد أُجبرت مجتمعات كاملة على النزوح من منازلها هرباً من القصف المتواصل، مما يفاقم أزمة إنسانية خطيرة تتكشف أمام أنظار العالم.
ويرى الاتحاد أن هذه الهجمات تأتي ضمن سياق أوسع من التصعيد المستمر في المنطقة خلال العامين الماضيين، بدءاً من الدمار الهائل الذي لحق بقطاع غزة وصولاً إلى الضربات المتكررة في لبنان وسوريا. وقد أدخل هذا المسار التصعيدي الشرق الأوسط في حلقة خطيرة من العنف وعدم الاستقرار، يدفع المدنيون ثمنها الأكبر.
كما أعرب الاتحاد عن قلقه العميق إزاء موقف الحكومة الأسترالية، التي سارعت إلى إعلان دعمها العلني لإسرائيل في هذا التصعيد العسكري، بدلاً من إدانة الهجمات والدعوة إلى حماية المدنيين ووقف الأعمال العدائية.
وفي الوقت الذي يُهجّر فيه مئات الآلاف من المدنيين اللبنانيين وتعيش مدن وقرى بأكملها تحت القصف، لم تُظهر الحكومة الأسترالية حتى الآن إدراكاً كافياً لحجم الكارثة الإنسانية المتفاقمة.
وبالنسبة للعديد من الأستراليين من أصول لبنانية، فإن هذه التطورات ليست مجرد أحداث بعيدة، بل مأساة إنسانية تمس عائلاتهم وأقاربهم بشكل مباشر.
وقال رئيس الاتحاد الأسترالي للمجالس الإسلامية، الدكتور راتب جنيد:
“إن التصعيد العسكري المتواصل الذي تمارسه إسرائيل، والمدعوم سياسياً وعسكرياً من الولايات المتحدة، يشكل توسعاً خطيراً وغير مشروع للنزاع في المنطقة، ويهدد بجر الشرق الأوسط إلى مواجهة أوسع وأكثر تدميراً.”
وأضاف:
“كان الأجدر بالحكومة الأسترالية أن تدعو إلى وقف التصعيد وحماية المدنيين، إلا أنها اختارت أن تعلن دعمها الفوري لهذه الهجمات. إن مثل هذا الموقف يبعث برسالة مقلقة في وقت ينبغي فيه على المجتمع الدولي أن يعمل بكل جدية لمنع اتساع رقعة الحرب.”
وحذر الاتحاد من أن توسيع نطاق الحرب ليشمل لبنان يحمل مخاطر جسيمة قد تؤدي إلى انفجار صراع إقليمي أوسع، ستكون عواقبه الإنسانية والسياسية كارثية على المنطقة بأسرها.
كما أكد أن استمرار العمليات العسكرية لا يجلب الأمن ولا الاستقرار، بل يعمّق حالة عدم الاستقرار، ويزيد من حجم المعاناة الإنسانية، ويقوّض القواعد الأساسية للقانون الدولي الإنساني الذي يفترض أن يحمي المدنيين في أوقات النزاعات.
ويدعو الاتحاد الأسترالي للمجالس الإسلامية الحكومة الأسترالية إلى إعادة النظر في موقفها، وإدانة الهجمات على لبنان وعلى المنطقة بشكل واضح وصريح، والعمل عبر القنوات الدبلوماسية الدولية للدفع نحو وقف فوري لإطلاق النار، وضمان حماية المدنيين، ومنع المزيد من التصعيد.
إن استمرار هذا التصعيد العسكري يهدد بتداعيات خطيرة على أمن واستقرار المنطقة والعالم، الأمر الذي يستوجب تحركاً دولياً عاجلاً لوقف الحرب قبل أن تتفاقم الكارثة الإنسانية بشكل أكبر.
AFIC Condemns Escalating Israeli Attacks on Lebanon and Criticises Australia’s Support for Military Escalation
The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) strongly condemns the latest escalation of Israeli military attacks on Lebanon, which have resulted in dozens of deaths, widespread destruction and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians.
Lebanon is once again being drawn into a devastating and expanding regional conflict as Israeli strikes intensify across the country, including attacks in eastern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. Entire communities are being forced to flee their homes as bombardments continue, adding to an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
These attacks form part of a broader pattern of escalating violence across the region over the past two years. From the devastation of Gaza to repeated strikes in Lebanon and Syria, the Middle East has been pushed into an increasingly dangerous cycle of conflict that continues to claim civilian lives and destroy entire communities.
AFIC expressed particular concern at the response of the Australian government, which moved quickly to publicly support this illegal war by Israel and the United States rather than condemn the escalation and the impact on civilians.
At a time when hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians are being displaced and entire communities are living under bombardment, the Australian government has offered little recognition of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding before the world.
For many Lebanese Australians, these events are deeply personal, with families and loved ones directly affected by the violence.
“This continued military escalation by Israel, backed politically and militarily by the United States, represents a dangerous and unlawful expansion of the conflict across the region,” said AFIC President Dr Rateb Jneid.
“Yet instead of calling for restraint and the protection of civilian life, the Australian government chose to immediately express support for these attacks. That response is deeply troubling and sends the wrong message at a time when the world should be demanding de-escalation.”
AFIC warned that the widening of the war into Lebanon risks plunging the region into an even broader and more destructive conflict.
The ongoing expansion of hostilities is not bringing security or peace. It is entrenching instability, fuelling humanitarian catastrophe and further eroding the international norms that are meant to protect civilians during times of war.
AFIC calls on the Australian government to reverse its position, publicly condemn the attacks on Lebanon and in the region more broadly, and use its voice internationally to advocate for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilian populations across the region.
The escalation of this war must stop before the consequences for the region become even more catastrophic.
