The evening commenced with a blessed recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Sheikh Samir Dabliz, followed by the Australian National Anthem. This was followed by the Association’s address delivered by Hajj Mohammed Mehio, who stated in part “As is its tradition and steadfast path, the Islamic Charity Association (ICPA) invites you to goodness and meets you upon righteousness. An association whose hands have carried nothing but goodness for this country and others; which has planted only benefit and grown institutions with education, reform, and guidance.
Mr. Mehio stated
From that sincere intention, people worked hard and established this beautiful Islamic charity Projects association. It was not built for publicity. It was not built for politics. It was built to serve — to support families, strengthen youth, and contribute positively to the Australian society we are proud to be part of.
We started hearing phrases like “ is there a good Muslim” “ Muslim vote” Let me say clearly: a Muslim is simply another Australian. An individual. A thinker. A Hard worker a contributor. A building block of this nation.
A Muslim has his or her own independent choice — like any other Australian. No community should be reduced to a voting block or used in a political game.
If anyone wishes to win my vote, it will not be through words alone. It will be through actions. Through policies that genuinely benefit the community. Through fairness, and a commitment to justice for all Australians.
Tonight’s iftar is a beautiful example of how Islam encourages harmony and engagement with others. Ramadan itself is a school — a school of discipline, patience and empathy.
Following this, Sheikh Professor Salim Alwan – charman of Darulfatwa Islamic High Council of Australia, delivered a speech encouraging the audience to grasp the blessed month of Ramadan through acts of obedience, preparing in this transient world for the everlasting Hereafter. He explained that this year’s Ramadan theme, “Provision for the Soul,” refines conduct, elevates morals, and teaches patience.
He noted that for over twenty two years, Darulfatwa has been educating and guiding teachers and Imam’s to protect society, emphasizing that nurturing the individual is nurturing the community. He stated
“We have worked hard to protect the nation by spreading calm, constructive, and purposeful speech at a time when extremists sow the seeds of their idealogies both covertly and overtly. We have continued—and will continue—to present religion in its tolerant and compassionate form.
His eminence Professor Sheikh Salim Alwan also highlighted that Darulfatwa has signed cooperation agreements with international Islamic and educational bodies, continues to participate in major international conferences, and conducts official visits to leading religious authorities in Al Awqaf in Egypt and the UAE. Locally, and in partnership with Al azhar university in Cairo we delivered education and training for 60 religious leaders across four states. Other initiatives include various community seminars, partnerships with the NSW government and civil institutions to combat domestic violence and other emerging issues. Again, we affirm our stance against violence promptly condemn all forms of extremism and reprehensible acts of terror such as the recent Bondi Beach attack. It is our collective responsibility to emphasise unity and harmony to help address contemporary challenges. He added, “together we will continue—to present our beautiful religion in its tolerant and compassionate form.
A video presentation highlighting the Association’s achievements was then screened. Subsequently, representatives of the federal and state governments, as well as members of the opposition, delivered addresses praising the accomplishments of the ICPA and wishing it continued progress and prosperity.
Following that, representatives of the federal and local governments, along with members of the opposition, took turns offering congratulations on the occasion of the month of Ramadan and praising the achievements of this blessed association, wishing it continued progress and prosperity.
